Power DAC Details

The heart of the Power DAC is the 2nd Generation Discrete MSB designed and built DACs. All other manufacturers use DAC chips by Crystal Semi or Burr Brown. MSB builds our own much higher performance DAC.   Separate power supplies are provided for each digital section with full battery operation. The outboard charger also powers the unit for continuous operation with complete electrical isolation.

High quality connectors are used on the back of the unit and all the digital inputs you could want are provided. Note both balanced and single ended outputs.

How is the Power DAC different from the DAC III?

The Power DAC has a number of different features but the fundamental technology is the same. The battery supplies and high density of the circuits results in lower noise. The Power DAC contains just 2 DACs where the DAC III has 4. As a result, the balanced output is created by inverting the single ended output as most DAC designers do.

The big difference is in the level of integration. The Power DAC does not offer the upgradability of the DAC III. This limitation is offset by a smaller package and lower price. The Power DAC also comes stock with a USB input, an option on the DAC III.
